What's Old is New Again

I made the rounds to a few press previews this week, and couldn't help but notice a huge revival in kitschy retro-inspired pieces. G-Star Raw showed some genius new offerings in all things denim, while KEDS gave us bloggers a fabulous peek at some adorable sneaks and apparel.

(I used to be a KEDS devotee back in elementary school, so I was secretly excited that they've revamped their image and have some things that my adult self would happily kick my heels up in, as well!) My personal pick? Those glammy metallic lace-ups, of course. You know, just in case I feel like wearing flats one of these days.

Everyday Romance

Truth be told, I'm not much of a casual dresser, no matter what. And even when I do (a relaxed game night, a theme park outing, a road trip, even), there's a strong sense of feminine pizazz mixed in; and most likely, I fiercely fought the urge to wear my tallest heels to punch up the glam factor somehow. I'm working on this. (Yes, some people struggle with getting dressed up; for me, it's a tremendous challenge to dress down.)

Imagine my delight when I saw this girly lace hoodie at Anthropologie today.

Casual elegance? I think this nails it. It will pair perfectly with jeans as I run out to the Farmer's Market or take in an outdoorsy sporting event (you know, in case I decide to do that one day.) Don't forget your pearls, pink lipstick and slightly tousled hair!

Jason Wu for Target: My Review

I know yesterday was Super Bowl Sunday for the rest of the world, but for me, I aptly declared it 'TargetWu Sunday' and made it my mission to snag some of the Jason Wu for Target designer collaboration goods for myself.

To be fair, his collection wasn't totally my style when I scoped out the line, but there were a few girly numbers that I thought would work with my wardrobe. All in all, it was a fierce fashion fight (we were out the door at 8AM and hit up five locations) to get my hands on the coveted collection; but my sister and I are persistent, stealth shoppers, and we came out triumphant. Plus, we placed a sizable online order the night before just to ensure we covered our bases.

Did any of you score some Wu? What did you think? The sizes seemed a little off to me, (some ran way too big, some ran a bit small), but nothing a great belt (Lord knows I have plenty of those!) and some hemming (these swingy dresses and skirts are always so long on me!) can't fix. Add some fabulous heels and I'm all set for spring!

Introducing...Style on the Street!

Fabulous readers of mine, I am BEYOND thrilled to introduce my latest venture to you--a NEW fashion video series called Style on the Street on typeF.com (Tyra's site!)

I hit five cool neighborhoods of L.A. and interviewed real girls with real (fierce! fabulous! fun!) style this summer. The series is fresh and innovative, and I had a BLAST creating it for stylish readers everywhere.

This is the first set of many more (fingers crossed!) to come, and I'm super proud to be a part of something that showcased diversity in every way of the word. In a small way, I genuinely hope to empower women to embrace exactly who they are and to feel fabulous from the inside out.

Please check it out and support Style on the Street!

xoxo
Jenn

Fourth of July Fashion

Inspired to wear red, white and blue this weekend, but not sure what ensemble will look both festive and fashionable? Here are some adorable options that will wow the crowd - whether you’re the belle of the barbeque, or sunbathing in St. Tropez.

Take the plunge in this stunning one-piece suit from Zimmermann. The blue and white zebra motif is playful yet pretty, while the cut is super sexy and flattering. After playing poolside, pair this suit with tailored navy shorts for as impromptu ensemble on the go.

Corey Lynn Calter is the queen of kitschy cute and this playful dress is full of patriotism. The ikat patterned full skirt topped with a striped bodice is unexpected and perfectly on trend this season. Pair with a fabulous nude heel or bright wedge for miles of style.

Stand tall in these incredible Tory Burch wedges! There’s a strong retro vibe thanks to the whimsical red, white and blue patterned sole, while chic braided woven leather details and a timeless T-strap style add sophistication.

For endless summer style, nab this incredible romper from Missoni. The rich colors and iconic pattern will inspire compliments from every which way. To accessorize, opt for neutral wedges, a straw bag and glamorous aviator shades to further enhance the fun retro vibe of this look.

Celeb Style: Jennifer Hudson

Yesterday I covered fashion and beauty at the BET Awards for BET.com. It was blazing hot on the red carpet (I think I'm about three solid shades tanner now) and I was definitely hustling in heels to nab as many fabulous celeb quotes as I could amongst all the chaos.

As for my outfit, I channeled Jennifer Hudson in a neon pink mini skirt (thank you, Zara!) and a timeless black BCBG corset top that I got seven years ago from Neiman Marcus. Some things never get old. Black peep-toe wedges with ruffle detail from JustFab.com.

Check it out:

I Heart Ronson Summer Soiree!

Last night I headed to the Hotel Roosevelt in Hollywood to celebrate the summer collection of I Heart Ronson, the clothing line by designer Charlotte Ronson for JCPenney. Not only did I score a sweet summer dress, but I also caught up with the designer who dished with me on her #1 rule for summer fashion and beauty: less is more. When it comes to beauty products or accessories, the designer opts for minimal effort for maximum impact.

"You either do fun beachy hair or a Brigitte Bardot eyeliner, but keep the rest simple," Ronson explained. As for her successful (and affordable) clothing line, she comments, "I'm so happy to do this. I've learned so much about the JCPenney customer and I think it keeps getting better and better. This summer it was all about ginghams, eyelets, plaids, polka dots, maxi dresses and rompers...things that I would want to wear. Easy and effortless!"

Ronson obviously knows a thing or two about style, as her Young Hollywood friends including Nicole Richie, Paris Hilton, Nicky Hilton, Rashida Jones and Ashlee Simpson stepped out to show their support and enjoyed a fun-filled night of fashion, bowling and music by (Charlotte's sis) DJ Samantha Ronson.

Super fun night, great crowd and incredible music! Who's ready for summer?

Welcome to Prep World!

The king of prep, Tommy Hilfiger, has been on a bit of a hiatus for the last few years, but is trying more than ever to revive his nautical empire via a pop-up shop aptly named Prep World. Through the weekend, the miniature craftsman house-like boutique will be at The Grove in L.A. offering summery selections from his men's and women's collections. The theme is infectiously cute, and the party to kick it all off was pretty fabulous too. Plenty of stars, stylists and notable insiders came out to support Hilfiger and noshed on lobster rolls, mini s'mores, mint juleps and more.

If you're in L.A., head to The Grove this weekend to check it out.

Celebs in Sundresses

Summer is my favorite season, primarily because it allows me the liberty of wearing sundresses every single day, day or night. Floral prints are an obvious choice, and girly, flirty frocks are always at the top of my list. Celebs like Minka Kelly, Taylor Swift and a handful of the Victoria's Secret Angels have been right on trend, wearing sweet dresses by Heartloom lately.

Alternative Apparel: New Kid on the Block

I've been a long-time fan of Alternative Apparel (their racer back tanks are cozy, perfect and last forever), so when I heard they were opening their first flagship store in Venice, I was intrigued. Don't get me wrong, the online shop is enticing as ever, but getting to try on all of the ultra-soft, wearable basics (not to mention tons of impressive fashion-y shapes and cool styles) is an incredibly appealing notion.

The store officially opened last week on Abbot Kinney, and I lucked out to be one of the first to tour the store (a resurrected old home from the 1920s) and enjoy a savory and delicious lunch catered by Venice Ale House. I was impressed beyond belief with the quirky cute store displays, awe-inspiring finishings and details--and not to mention the vast selection of super covetable clothes that(literally) everyone can wear.

See for yourself:
