Biker Babe

Here in L.A., just about everyone who's anyone has a motorcycle jacket (myself included.) It's chic without trying too hard, and easily toughens up dresses and skirts on nights out. And since our weather is pretty pleasant all year-round, it's really the only kind of jacket you'll need. (Although I do keep two wool coats in storage--but for traveling purposes only!)

The key is finding one that stands out in a crowd in a subtle way; and most importantly, to find one that's flattering to your body type (because trust me, not all motorcycle jackets were created the same!) The cut and detailing can make a major difference: you'll either look like a fool or look unabashedly fierce!

The other night, I went to dinner with my fabulous friend, Ali, and fell in love with the lightweight moto jacket she had on. It was fresh, flattering and functional; and not to mention super soft and wearable. It was the ideal transitional in-between-seasons jacket, and the rumpled collar was fashion-forward without being over-the-top.

I inquired immediately, and turns out she nabbed her topper in two colors (black and tan) from local boutique Diane Merrick. Amazed, I did a little research, and discovered that it's not only sold online (black only), but at a very affordable price of $120 (faux leather, natch.)

Get it here.
