Twice a year, Fred Segal hosts their big SALE, where pretty much the entire store is a whopping 50% off; and naturally, pretty much all of LA packs into the store for some designer deals.
This time around, though, given my recent resolution to save money, I decided early on to stay away from the sale for my own good. I was quite proud of this decision, and I stuck to my guns and resisted stopping by the sale on day one and day two, but on day three, I caved and somehow found myself parking in the lot on Melrose Avenue against my better judgment. (What? I have a shopping addiction. I'm working on it.)
Anyway, the exterior of the store had massive SALE banners flailing in the wind, and the valet attendants looked more frenzied than ever before with the entourage of vehicles pulling in by the dozens. I jumped out of my car and made a beeline for the best sections, knowing that I was already coming in to the sale late, so the selection was probably going to be a bit picked over.
I scanned the racks and tried on a dozen or so different things that tickled my fancy. They had plenty to pick from--Elizabeth and James, LNA, Malene Birger, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Mike & Chris, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Madison Marcus, Yaya Aflalo and much, much more.
Though I temporarily relapsed and seriously considered plunking down my plastic on some cute tops and dresses; I thankfully got a hold of myself and put every single thing back on the rack and walked out of the store empty handed.
Have to admit, it felt weird to not partake in this ceremonious shopping tradition of sorts, but then again, my bank account was beaming with pride, which was also a strange (yet refreshing) feeling, too, so I think I'm on the right track. :)
