Beauty Reject

So I accompanied my future sis-in-law to her makeup trial appointment this morning, and we ended up not hiring her for the Big Day after all.

Here's why:

I'm no beauty snob, by any means, but as a beauty editor/junkie, I know A LOT about products, and even more about application. I pay attention to these things and I take it seriously.

Imagine my horror when I glanced at girlfriend's 'professional' makeup collection. Her beauty stash was CHEAP. Period.

Forgive me, but shouldn't makeup artists be toting the best of the best? Whether it's Creme de la Mer foundation or Maybelline Great Lash mascara--price doesn't matter; it's all about the results, right?

I mean, after all, they are getting PAID to make people look good for an important occasion. It seems like a no-brainer that their products should perform well and their skills as artists should be apparent.

The vast majority of this girl's products were by low-end brands like NYX and Wet N' Wild. (ummm seriously...) Her foundation was, coincidentally, by Maybelline--and not even one of their 'better' formulas.

She had to redo the eye makeup three times before we got the shades right--and it wasn't until Claire whipped out her own eye shadow palette from her purse, that we achieved the look we wanted. The makeup artist didn't even have the right shadows for a simple, natural look.

In the end, it was blaringly obvious that this 'makeup artist' was nowhere near what we wanted, so we sent her on her way and shook our heads in dismay. Think we'll be doing our own makeup on Saturday.
