So Shady!

I lucked out big-time last week, and hung out with designer Derek Lam at the Chateau Marmont as he unveiled his new eyewear collection to select editors. We perched on the penthouse balcony and chatted about California living (he's originally from San Francisco, though he now lives in New York), the definition of 'chic' and the commercialization of the fashion industry through media (ouch!)

He impressed me with his incredibly articulate, thoughtful and down-to-earth demeanor, and, let's not forget, his sunglass collection was pretty astounding, too. We all walked away with a pair of frames that flattered our faces--the perfect accessory for a long, hot summer ahead.

“I keep a very open mind and try not to be everything to everybody. I want people to take part in my imaginary voyage of each season," Lam explained to me.
