Sample Sales & Socials

I've run into Nicky Hilton two nights in a row this week, what with all of the fashion holiday parties in full swing. (Sidenote: literally, I see this girl everywhere...from VIP events to standing next to her in line at AT&T), so at least I know I'm not the only one who's a little frenzied with a busy social schedule these days.

I stopped by Arcade boutique on Melrose last night to visit with designer Elise Overland as she was in town to preview her spring collection and toast L.A. A pretty weak crowd showed (blame it on the inclement weather), save for a few notable stylists--Becks Welch who was pulling for Isla Fisher; and Lee Harris who snapped up a deeply-discounted embellished day dress for Drew Barrymore.

Overland's designs are best described as luxe and glamorous with a roughened-up laid back edge that is so very L.A. Plenty of lightweight, wearable pieces in gorgeous rich fabrics (laser cut leathers, dreamy silks, etc.) lined the rack, and were all available for pre-order.

Attendees, however, seemed more apt to mingling than actually shopping; with the exception of Nicky, who gladly swiped her credit card to purchase a gunmetal python mini skirt in five minutes flat.

Possibly the most notable of Overland's line are her stretch leather leggings, that are so sumptuous, she can actually get away with charging well over a thousand dollars (!!!) for a pair.

The designer gave me a detailed explanation of the process of the creation of those pants, so I suppose this price is (almost) justified.

I did a quick search online and found them marked down to a glorious $810 on www.funkylala.com. --just in case you're interested.
