Madewell for Shopbop=Boring.

I was doing my weekly perusal of ShopBop.com, and I noticed that they're now promoting an exclusive Madewell for Shopbop collection. I thought this was noteworthy since there are still so few Madewell locations in the U.S., and it seems smart to put some pieces online. Even though my own shopping territories are covered (thank you, Century City and Las Vegas!), I feel for those who still haven't checked out the fun, wearable and reasonably priced J.Crew off-shoot label.

However, after clicking around, I was dismayed. Not only is the collection of denim separates incredibly boring, but they're also overpriced.

The price points are definitely a bit more reasonable in store (and they have killer seasonal sales), and might I add that what I love most from Madewell includes their colorful, ultra-thin T-shirt sweaters, gauzy, gorgeous lightweight scarves, long cardigans and chic distressed riding boots--not dull distressed denim shorts and pegleg jeans that I can get just about anywhere, if need be.

I think there's a good market for Madewell's relaxed peppy-meets-uptown preppy aesthetic, and Shopbop should have definitely seized that style over these not-so-brilliant basics.
